Local House Builder wins top construction award

Stephen George, Westhaven Construction Limited, has been placed amongst the UK’s top 100 site managers in NHBC’s national Pride in the Job Awards for his outstanding site management skills and building the best quality new homes.

Pride in the Job (PIJ) has been rewarding the individual developers of sites with excellent standards on site for 35 years. Stephen has been hand-picked from more than 18,000 contenders across the UK for an award.

The company has a history of producing Pride in the Job winning site managers and this is the eighth year that the Westhaven Team have won a Pride in the Job Awards. Stephen’s awards have been for the development at GLENOVER FIELDS Haverfordwest. (Stephen has won this award in 2006, 2008 2009, 2011, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017)

Stephen says: “I am thrilled to have won a Seal of Excellence Award. It is a tribute to the staff and shows the total commitment our team has to achieving high standards.”

To become a Pride in the Job winner involves a great deal of commitment and hard work. Judging is based on 38 different elements of site management, from technical knowledge, consistency in the build process to excellent leadership and organisational skills.  Only site managers who demonstrate the highest standards in each of these areas receive an Award.

Peter Watton, NHBC’s Regional Director for Wales, said:  “The speed and severity of the current downturn has had a dramatic impact on the industry, not least the site managers who are responsible for managing and delivering quality new homes to buyers.  This year, despite the considerable pressure on site managers, we are pleased to see that maintaining quality workmanship and service is still a key priority for so many.

“To win a Pride in the Job Award at this stage of the competition takes an exceptional level of commitment and hard work. Each of the winners is a tribute to the new homes industry and testament to the high standards that can be achieved.”

NHBC's Pride in the Job competition continues to inspire site managers to raise house building standards. It rewards high standards of workmanship across all trades on site and all aspects of the build process. For site managers, winning a Pride in the Job Award represents a major achievement and is something to strive for.

Around 18,000 NHBC registered site managers are eligible to win a Pride in the Job award, and only 400 of those get through to the first round of awards.
